About UK Athletics

As the national governing body for athletics, UK Athletics (UKA) oversees the development and management of the nation’s favourite Olympic and Paralympic sport, from grassroots right through to podium. Since its inception in 1999, UKA has developed to become the most successful and robust athletics governing body in the world. Over the years it has matured to generate a clear vision for the sport – to drive up performance and raise standards in every event, every region and every age group.

This vision is fuelled by a dedicated team of full-time staff and part time volunteers who all share the same passion and ambition for athletics, and are therefore instrumental in ensuring that athletics remains the most popular Olympic/Paralympic sport. Yet the purpose of UKA does not end at preparing athletes for the Olympic/Paralympic world stage. Not only does it create mass appeal of a truly breath-taking spectator sport through televised events, UKA also plays a fundamental role in developing a “sport for all‟ by encouraging participation no matter what your age, ability or background.

What We Do

Together with the Home Nations and England Athletics regions, UKA works closely together with over 1,400 clubs and thousands of schools and local authorities across the UK to grow talent and ensure that athletics remains the nation’s favourite Olympic/Paralympic sport.

Our three primary roles are:

- Governance
UKA is wholly responsible for developing and implementing the rules and regulations of the sport, including everything from anti-doping, health and safety, welfare, influencing the curriculum in schools, colleges and universities to facilities licensing.

- Funding
As a business, UKA is responsible for securing commercial partners and sponsorship to fund and help develop the sport. UKA is proud to be supported by Müller, Nike, the BBC, SPAR, Strathmore and Birmingham City Council, along with additional funding from UK Sport.

- Development
